Irish Rover!

 Hi

We had the Irish Ayes for the boat and Elvis and Mingo for the camper, well I think an appropriate name for the trike is….(dramatic pause). The Irish Rover!!  LOL

OK then,  Yesterday I took the Irish rover for her first , out of town, adventure.  we went to the Neponset River Bike trail.  This trail start in Mattapan and goes for about 4 mile to Tenean beach in Dorchester.  It meanders along the Neponset River and is quite beautiful.

I had a great time.  Packed a lunch and lots of water.  Brought my cameras and off I went!  Awesome day.

New Adventures

A long time ago, when my children were little and there were no GPSs, I would get lost going places. (Sometimes)   I would never admit that I was lost, I would just tell them it was just an adventure.  Eventually my children grew up and realized  that I was actually lost , but remembered the adventure!!!  :)

Over the years I have had many “adventures”  driving,  kayaking, boating and camping.  Well now it is time for triking!   When Gene got the scooter to use while waiting for the prosthetics  for his legs, we ordered an electric trike for me so we could explore the area together.  ( I could not keep up with him walking!!).   The Plan of course was that once he healed, he would have the trike and I would be a Ebike or another trike.  Well……

Now it is just me and I still want to explore and have adventures.  I have outgrown the area around Union Point and want to explore.  I bought a trike rack and Katie helped me. Put it together. (I really just passed her the tools).

The very next day my adventures began!!   Stay tuned!!!

One Year

It has been a year and a half  year since I said Good bye to my loving husband, friend and confidant.  My person.  It has been hard, sorrowful, enlightening, and insightful.  I miss Gene.  I talk to him often.  I have also learned that I am strong.  It is finally time for me.  I have great children and granddaughters.  I have a great job and wonderful people that I work with.  I have made some interesting , strong and intelligent people.  I have come to like myself alone and am not afraid to do things and go places by myself.

Goodbye

Learning to live again

It has been 8 month since I said goodbye to my friend, and  husband, Gene.   For almost 30 years we smiled, we fought, we cried: together.  We shared dreams, traveled the states, and reveled in the beauty of this country.  I am thankful for the experience of seeing the impact of the immigrants that came to our country !  The Irish of the north, the Spanish on the south, the French/Candians.  They have left an influence of the food, religion, and strength of their culture  here.  We traveled throughout the south.  We ate Cajun food, Mexican food, and french food.  Although they were very different, they brought their little piece of home.
I still want to travel and explore.  last summer I went into Boston.  First to Haymarket then to the waterfront, Fanuil Hall, and some of the Emerald walkway.   Went to see the Moonwalkers with Katie, explored the Ferry to Boston and back with Erin. Just learning to live again but without Gene

Hello World!

We have been back since May.  We came home to get the boat in the water and ready for sale.  Well, after 2 new batteries and some scheduled maintenance , the boat when in the water.  4th of July!  Washing the interior, exterior.....  The boat is ready.  Now we need to launch the rubber raft.

South of Boston Quilts for Kids:

While I have been home I have joined a quilting organization called South of Boston Quilts for Kids.  Gene's cousin's wife has a friend that is always looking for quilters and gave her my # .  My first visit, I got a kit to make a quilt, all pre cut with material that had ben donated to the organization.  There were only about half a dozen of us but the number varies rom week to week.  I am learning from some very impressive  women!  I am humbled by the knowledge and skill of these members.  I watch and learn as these women sew, piece, and machine quilt material into beautiful, comfy, huggable quilts for kids, elders, homeless, premies,.........

I am learning how to select fabric for different patterns.  I watch as they free motion quilt.  I watch with envy as they use a walking foot for make such beautiful patterns of lines, circles, triangles and other shapes.

I have make quilts before.  I have made tied quilts for each of my children,  more like comfort quilts.   Last year I started to hand quilt.  very relaxing.

This was the first quilt that I made.  30 + years ago.  I was well loved and falling apart, so I hand quilted it together to keep it together for future generations, I hope.  Love it.

Well that started me on  a quest to hand quilt.  Next came a quilt that I made for Mom in 1985.  I gave that to my sister Maureen when it was done.

This was pre hand quilting. :)

These are the quilts that I am working on for the organization.
This is ready to begin machine quilting

This is the next on to be quilted.

I have also cut material for a Halloween Quilt that I will be piecing soon and then finishing to donate.

All of the fabric that we use was donated at some point.  If anyone feels compelled to donate, we need lots of batting!!!!  :)

I quess more to come as I move along my road to learning, sewing, and donating quilts!!!

Time for some great slide shows?

We have traveled to some wonderful places.  We have gone from New England to the border of Mexico.  We have stayed on farms, at museums, at brewery s , and truck rest stops.  This trip has ben a blast.

We have met so many fabulous people this time traveling.  Antique gallery owners, rig museum guides, farmers.

Did you know that peacocks roost in trees?  Who knew!  They do and they sound like they are calling for help!

I like showing videos of where we have been.  I am still trying to figure out all of the  ins and outs of video making but hear goes......

Coastal Texas

We left the heat of Laredo TX and the Mexican Border for the wind of the coast.  We stayed in a beautiful state park, Mustang Island State Park, then stayed on the beach for one night on Magnolia Beach.

Magnolia Beach

The beach was nice, and hard packed.  We were very close to the shore line but it never got to us.  It rained but it was still lovely to watch the rain on the beach and the waves going out.

Next stop was Galveston Island State Park.  Very nice! neat, clean and very windy.  easy ride into Galveston.
